Bars, Beergardens, Nightclubs or Pubs?
Irish pubs are known for their cosy, traditional settings, they offer a wide selection of beers and hearty food. Many have wooden floors, dark furniture, and old photographs on the walls, giving them a
timeless, homely feel. But it's not just the surroundings that make these pubs special; it's the spirit of community and connection. You'll often hear
laughter, lively conversation, and sometimes even live music. Pubs are where people gather to share stories and enjoy each other's company.
In Ireland, pubs aren't just places to drink; they are often the heart of the community. No matter how small a town or a villages is, you will always find a pub everywhere you go.
That is why you will find 4,622 pubs on the map below. They are found in both urban and rural areas, serving as vital community hubs, particularly in the countryside. The local pub is
where people gather to chat, catch up with old friends, or make new ones. It's a welcoming space for everyone, locals and visitors alike. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious,
making it easy to strike up a conversation with anyone around you.
On the other hand, bars are typically a modern, energetic places that are specialized in spirits, lighter snacks and cocktails. The last one is the reason why a cocktail has been choosen as the marker for the bars.
A beergarden is an outdoor area where beer is served, typically with seating and shade provided by trees or umbrellas. It's a place where people gather to socialize, relax and enjoy a variety of beers in a scenic and informal setting. Although there are no many beergardens displayed on the map below, many pubs do have a beergarden, but they are categorized as a pub rather than a beergarden. That is the main reason just only 18 beergardens came up when doing the searching on OpenStreetMap (OSM).
Clubs are typically known as nightclubs. These places are more dynamic and energetic where you can enjoy drinks, dancing and music. Clubs consist of lively dance floors and DJ booths. When compared to bars, clubs are more lively. Unlike bars, they do not have a relaxed atmosphere but an energetic vibe with appealing dress codes. Nightclubs also have special themes on different occasions. As you can see exploring the map below, there are 77 nightclubs captured from OSM, mainly concentrated in big towns and cities.
The map has been created by getting the geolocation of bars, beergadens, nightclubs and pubs from OpenStreetMap (OSM). A total of 782 bars, 18 beergardens, 77 nightclubs and 4,622 pubs were found. Once the data was imported to qGIs, a symbol for each category was used to create and edit the map having in mind it was going to be displayed on the website. As a final step, the plugin qgis2web was used to export the map in order to view it interactively on the web without any programming skills.
